Dr. David Robertson

Dr. Robertson has been a resident of Southern California his entire life. He graduated from UCLA in 1984 with a degree in mathematics and subsequently worked for UCLA’s computing department. While at UCLA he became an avid horse riding enthusiast and was trained as a classical dressage rider. He also became involved with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department both as a reserve patrol deputy and later as a member of the LASD Mounted Enforcement Detail where he worked as a mounted reserve deputy and greatly enhanced his knowledge about training horses and riders. Dr. Robertson decided to further his equine knowledge by attending Western University of Health Sciences and graduated in 2008 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After graduating, he worked in Arizona with a board certified equine reproduction specialist before moving back to Southern California where he founded Select Equine Veterinary Services with Dr. Renee Wanner.

Dr. Renee Wanner

Dr. Wanner grew up on the east coast where she started riding horses at 8 years old. As a junior, she competed in the equitation and junior hunter arenas, but schooled in dressage as well. Even as a junior rider, she had an interest in performance limiting conditions affecting the sport horse. She studied English literature at Drew University in New Jersey and competed on the varsity equestrian team. She relocated to Massachusetts where she earned an MBA and studied the sciences required to attend veterinary school.

She went to Ross University Veterinary School and completed her clinical year at Colorado State University. After veterinary school, she interned at Fairfield Equine Associates in Newtown, Connecticut. This opportunity allowed her to concentrate on all aspects of veterinary medicine associated with the sport horse including thorough lameness exams, radiology, ultrasonography, pre-purchase exams, bone scans and MRI. After her internship she spent a year working as an associate for a veterinarian in California before joining up with Dr. David Robertson to form Select Equine Veterinary Services.

Dr. Wanner involves herself in all aspects of equine veterinary medicine and immensely enjoys the challenges unique to the sport horse. She has also taken on the care of local sheep and goats. She continues to ride and is looking forward to getting back into the competitive arena.

Kiley – Office Manager

Kiley has been the office manager at Select Equine Veterinary Services for about five years. She has a degree in economics from Stanford University and has worked as a staff accountant for a regional accounting firm. She was also Business Manager for Hightower Toyota, Inc, her family’s Toyota dealership.

Kiley has a long history with horses. She started riding while in elementary school and rode hunters and jumpers while in high school and college. After a few years away from horses, Kiley returned to riding with her two daughters. She currently rides dressage with Tricia Hamilton at Middle Ranch.

Besides riding Kiley enjoys cooking and entertaining with her husband Michael and spending time with her friends and family, especially her daughters Katie and Meredith.

Taylor Pope – Veterinary Technician

Taylor has been working with animals since 2009. She was a small animal veterinary assistant for around 8 years prior to having her son and taking time off to raise him to school age. Taylor started riding horses when she was a little girl and grew up competing in hunter-jumper and equitation. Animals have been the center of her life since she was born. Her mom was big into animal rescue and Taylor always was around to help in anyway possible. Outside of animals Taylor’s biggest passion is being a mom. She loves going to museums, movies and of course amusement parks with Disneyland being her favorite.

Rhonda Botchan – Accounts Receivable

Rhonda has been working in the office in accounts receivable for the past two years. She has a bachelors degree in Equine Business Management and Marketing from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. She has been an active horse owner for the past 47 years.
